OS Special Olympian, Travis!

Let’s put the spotlight on OS Client, Travis Dzwonkowski from Rochester, Minnesota! He recently returned from the Special Olympics Nationals in New Jersey with a Gold Medal for Basketball. Travis has been playing basketball since he was 4 years old, and has participated with the Special Olympics team for over 10 years. His favorite position on the court is Shooting Forward, but he also plays Power Forward and Center. Did you know it’s quite a rigorous process to tryout for the Minnesota Special Olympics Team? First your team has to place at the State Special Olympics level, and then you have to attend the tryouts where only 10 players are selected to move forward! The team practices once a week in the Twin Cities- that’s a long drive from Rochester. Luckily, Travis and two other teammates from Rochester made the Minnesota team, so they could all drive together. Travis and his teammates went on to win the Gold Medal at Nationals in New Jersey, after they defeated 28 other teams.

Travis has worked with Opportunity Services for 3 years and enjoys his job at Samaritan Bethany. Travis is a prep cook, and he also stocks shelves and is a house maker, making meals for the residents and helping them in their rooms. He likes working and spending time with the residents because they are very funny! In his free time, Travis likes to ride his bike, hang out with friends, go to movies, run track and play softball.

Congrats on your Gold Medal, Travis!
