Meet Tiffany and Katelyn: two sisters who love Opportunity Services and Special Olympics!

Tiffany (top right) has been an Opportunity Services client since 2011 in Savage, Minnesota while Katelyn (bottom left), her younger sister has worked for OS as an Employment Specialist and TTW Supervisor since April 2017. In addition to their dedication to OS, they love Special Olympics.

Tiffany has been participating in Special Olympics since 1997 and Katelyn since 2000, it’s a family affair. They created a team: “Rocky Mountain Special Olympics” when they lived in Colorado. When they moved back to Minnesota and couldn’t find a team to meet their needs, they decided to create a team here too; the “Wizardz” were born in 2006. Both parents coach various Special Olympics sports, including swimming, bowling, bocce ball and volleyball. Katelyn coaches, in addition to competing in Unified Sports with Tiffany. The whole family has quite the record with Special Olympics: they were the Colorado Special Olympics Family of the Year in 2004; Tiffany earned the opportunity to compete in the very first Special Olympics National Games in Ames, IA in 2006 for swimming. Tiffany earned two Gold Medals again this year. Tiffany won the Gold Medal for singles Bocce Ball and Tiffany and Katelyn won the Gold Medal for Bocce Ball Unified Doubles during the Special Olympics MN fall games in August 2017! Because of these amazing achievements, Tiffany may have the opportunity to compete during the Special Olympics National Games which will be held in Seattle, WA in summer 2018.

When they are not playing or coaching Special Olympics sports, you can find Tiffany and Katelyn at OS. Tiffany enjoys working with OS at various Savage job sites. Her favorite is the Marriott in Eden Prairie where she gets to clean rooms– she enjoys dusting the most! She also likes to work at TJ Maxx where she unpacks boxes and flat folds the new merchandise coming into the store. She’s extremely fast at flat folding so everyone loves it when she’s on-the-job there! Katelyn has always been a huge part of Tiffany’s journey and attended her yearly annuals at OS. When an OS job opportunity opened up, she knew she had to apply. “I think of the Opportunity Services mission when working with our clients,” says Katelyn. “I see first hand the difference this organization has made in my sister’s life and I want to help others have that same success. Working here, my passion and career are now aligned. I have the chance to utilize my life experiences and my education to help others and do something I love everyday!”

We’re glad to have both Tiffany and Katelyn as part of our Opportunity Services family. We can’t wait to see their continued success at OS, Special Olympics and beyond!
