Meet Tyric- the latest employment success in Springfield, MA!

Tyric is an Opportunity Services client in Springfield, Massachusetts. He’s been successfully employed at Smith & Wesson for over 4 weeks! Since 1852, Smith & Wesson has been the lead manufacturer of pistols and revolvers that have become the standard issue to police and armed forces throughout the world. Tyric works fulltime making pistols on an assembly line that requires speed, accuracy and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment!

Kristen Blackmer is a Vocational Counselor with Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission and works with Tyric. Kristen heard about Opportunity Services’ Employment Specialist Kat Mangiafico, and her success with working with the younger population. “Tyric is an amazing individual and I knew if he worked with Opportunity Services, Kat would help find him the best employment opportunity. Their relationship has been a win-win for everyone,” said Kristen. Tyric is gaining confidence and a sense of belonging within his community. He enjoys learning new things every day and goes to work with a “Can-Do-Attitude!”

Tyric’s placement would not have been possible without the business partnership of United Personnel. They are a staffing agency in downtown Springfield that has deep knowledge of the local employment market and have been around for over 30 years.

Molly Desroches is a seasoned recruiter with United Personnel. Over this past year Opportunity Services and United Personnel have teamed up to create great matches between employers and candidates with the focus being on creating a sustainable workforce. Typically, when a candidate is hired through United Personnel, they are paid through the staffing agency. Once the individual proves to be reliable, the middleman – United Personnel is taken out of the employment equation and the individual is hired directly through the company. In Tyric’s case, when he is transitioned onto Smith & Wesson’s payroll, his hourly rate will automatically increase! Manufacturing is on the rise in Springfield, MA. With only a high school degree in hand, many young adults have the opportunity to develop careers, have a sustainable living and add to the revitalization of The Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts.

Kat enjoys working with Tyric. “Tyric is 24 years old and represents the next generation of leadership. He has all the right qualities to succeed. I’m over the moon that Tyric has the potential to have a career and grow with a rock solid organization.”

Opportunity Services is partnering with many organizations and coining the phrase, “Getting Massachusetts Back to Work!” “It takes a village and I’m happy to be part of it,” says Kat. Congratulations on your employment Tyric! We are looking forward to your bright future!
